Why Live Calls Teach Differently
In a scripted video the coach already knows the answer before the recording starts. In these calls he doesn’t. A hand comes in, the room posts its reads in chat, Saulo pushes back — what factor makes you want to check the turn? — and only then opens the sim. You watch a professional decide what to look up, in what order, and what he does when the data doesn’t settle it.
The hands are real and messy: 1/2 and 500NL PokerStars spots, four-bet pots with a hand nobody is sure about preflop, bluff-catches against a fish where the board texture is the whole argument. Some end with a clean answer. Some end with Saulo saying he’d want to check the exact continuation numbers before committing. That honesty is the value.
The live layer over the whole system
Because these calls run alongside his other work, they constantly connect to it. A student’s bluff-catch against a check-raise-bet-bet line from a fish turns out to be the exact spot released in a Dose of Blue Line session that same day — so he covers the size the student actually faced, which the release didn’t. The detail that shows the depth
In one call a student calls down a fish on a four-to-a-straight river after a check-raise, bet, bet line. The room folds. Saulo agrees — and then goes further, pulling the data to show that the same nominal bet size behaves differently depending on whether it was a normal bet or an all-in, with slightly fewer bluffs in the all-in version. That distinction does not appear in any curriculum. It appears because a student brought the hand.

Five sessions attack the two decisions every player gets wrong most often, and they are structured to produce a usable heuristic rather than a verdict on one hand. The method is consistent: assess villain’s range first, then ask what he actually arrives at the river with — because the quality of your range assessment is the ceiling on the quality of your bluff. Every hand reviewed is one a student was genuinely unsure about.
